Australia has many hidden histories. William Yang’s work as a photographer, performance artist and filmmaker has brought some of them to light:  Sydney’s gay scene, the seventies and eighties art scene, the aids plague. And the Chinese in Australia: a long history of persecution and persistence. Blood Links is a culmination of much of William’s work to date, telling us through his own family history stories of endurance, survival and triumph.
William Yang is not just a photographer, but a storyteller. His work is spare, considered. Those who have never experienced one of his slide performances have a chance with Blood Links  to study old images brought to light, and new ones created. Blood Links does a rare thing: it gives you time to study these images, and be profoundly moved.
